Acne Prevention

Five Rules For Clear Skin

Acne Prevention We all want acne free days, so how do we get there? Acne is caused by a combination of factors, like your hormone balance and your skin's genetic renewal process. However, there are a number of things that you can do to take back control of your unruly skin!

Tip #1: Don't over-wash. Gently cleansing your skin twice daily will keep your skin fresh and free of bacteria. Anymore than twice daily can leave your skin overly dry stimulating extra oil production which could result in even more breakouts.

Tip #2: Avoid rough scrubs. Exfoliating sloughs away dry, dead skin cells revealing more youthful healthy looking skin. Be sure to use gentle formulas with small, smooth grains. Avoid products containing almond or apricot shell fragments. These rough scrubs can further irritate acne and even tear your skin.

Tip #3: Hands off. Avoid touching your face at all costs! Excessive touching of your face, including rubbing or resting your chin in your hands, can drive bacteria into your pores causing breakouts.

Tip #4: Say no to alcohol. When using a toner avoid those products which contain high concentrations of isopropyl alcohol, or common rubbing alcohol. Overly strong astringents strip the top layer of skin of needed moisture aggravating skin further.

Tip #5: Don't pick! Squeezing or picking blemishes can force bacteria deeper into the skin causing greater inflammation and infection. You'll also increase the damage to the surrounding skin, so the blemish is more likely to leave a permanent acne scar.
